How I Spend My Time

Picture
I have always been the person to put others before myself. My mom's favorite quote is what goes around comes around, I have always been reminded  of that and live by it. Always treat someone the way you would like to be treated. I spend most of my time at school working to get to my goal of being an occupational therapist assistant. I'm goofy and love making people laugh! I'm always keeping myself busy, always finding something to do!

School

I am in the Occupational Therapy Assistant program at Erie Community College. The program is a lot of work, and there are a lot of things to learn, such as Anatomy, but I know this is the career for me. I love being able to help people who can't help themselves. I have been involved with helping the disabled since I was in High School. As a senior at Lancaster, I volunteered to help in the Self Contained Special Education Classroom. Almost three years ago I started with Moving Miracles and have been working with the disabled. I enjoy helping every one of them and love seeing how the program helps them advance. This is why I chose Occupational Therapy.

I've had a few different jobs, and some of them that I still work at today. I've worked at Ted's Hot Dogs, Abercrombie Kids, Hollister, and I have been at Darien Lake for 4 years now. I love working there, its a great summer job and you make great friendships!

Moving Miracles has been a part of my life for the past two years. It has been a huge influence in my life. When I first found out about occupational therapy, the program was one of my first experiences working with an individual who was in a wheelchair. I was still in high school when I first started volunteering at moving miracles when my older sister brought me in to help in one class my first year. I loved it! The next year I volunteered on monday nights and all saturday mornings! I worked with so many different dancers, and got to know so many families in the program, it was great! This past summer I was asked to be a co-teacher I was ecstatic! I am still working with some of the dancers I used to and getting to know more! The people from this program became a second family to me, I really got to know them and I want to do what I can help them be the best they can be!
