Christina Kasper’s Family History

Knowing your family history is an important part of everyone’s life. After researching for this project I found that my family members immigrated either from Germany or Poland. On my mothers side of the family all emigrated from Germany. My father’s mother’s side also emigrated from Germany. On his father’s side everyone emigrated from Poland.
As you have noticed my last name used to be Kasprzyk. Around 1948 when my grandma and grandpa Kasper were married, my grandfather started his own milk delivery business. He named this business Model Dairy. At that time ethnic names were not popular. My grandfather then changed our name from Kasprzyk to Kasper.
After research I have found that only one of my ancestors actually came through Ellis Island. This person was my great, great, great, great grandfather Fred Lau. He was on my mother’s side of the family. I actually found that he and his wife Mary Anna Schultz Lau were married April 19th 1895. They then immigrated through Ellis Island in 1921.
The Kasprzyk family however emigrated from Poland through Canada. My great grandfather Boleslaw Kasprzyk was born September 12th 1889 in Poland. His wife Belbina Wisniewski Kasprzyk was born January 15th and we do not know what year, was also born in Poland. Together they emigrated from Poland to Canada where my grandfather Adolphe Stanley Kasprzyk was born. We are unsure when the family moved to America. We do know that the family settled in Buffalo.
The oldest ancestor that we found was on my father’s mother’s side. This would be my great, great, great, great grandfather Christoph Fraas. He was born in Germany on June 11th 1796. He died on July 1st 1872. His daughter Katherina Fraas married Johann Rasp and together they lived in Vohenstrauss, Germany. They gave birth to Johann Christoph Rasp [Christopher John Rasp Sr.] on May 17th 1857 in Vohenstrauss, Germany. He then married Antonia M. Behringer June 16th 1861. Together they immigrated to Buffalo in 1882.
Over all I was able to go back as far as seven generations. I learned names that I have never heard of before. I also saw familiar names as far back as six generations. I found that some of my family’s first names were very funny. My favorites are Boleslaw and Belbina!!! I’m happy that I did not get named after any of my ancestors.

Our Annual Mother's Day Celebration!

Picture
Our family consists of my grandma, my aunt June, Uncle Jerry, my dad, my mom, my sister and me! Every mother's day we all get together for a home cooked brunch! Our meal is breakfast pizza, pastries from the bakery, freshly cut fruit and flowers set out for the mothers! It's a delicious meal that is just thrown together, and when we are finished eating it's an easy clean up by my dad and Uncle Jerry. This is always something to look forward to each year and a great way to celebrate our mothers as a family!

Family Trips

My family has always loved traveling. We used to just camp out in a tent when I was about 10, then we got our RV. There are so many great memories that we have had in that RV. Who would have thought that old a small 3 person RV could be so much fun! Whenever I look back to old pictures of the places I've been I just think of how close our family became and all the funny stories from each place we went to! One of the most memorable trips was when our whole family drove cross country, we were in that little RV for a month! In that RV we have seen Chicago, Mt. Rushmore, Yellowstone, Salt Lake City, Reno, the coast of California (where I swam), Los Angeles, The Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, The St. Louis Arch and so much more! I loved it, I hope to be able to do that again.

Easter Trips

I was fortunate that most of my life I would go to florida or south carolina for my easter break! My family would always go to the beaches! I loved it, it was always bonding time for me and my dad! My mom and sister would lay on the beach while me and my dad would find something exciting to do. I started off with boogie boarding, then I learned about skim boarding. I was always falling and cutting my knees open but I loved it! I have been skim boarding since I was 12! When I was in high school I got the chance to try out surfing! I loved that too! My dad helped teach me how to skim board along with many other things. When all fails call dad! Without him I don't know what I would do!

Mom

Picture
There are very few people who I can go to when I need advice, to vent to, or to just talk to that I can trust. My whole life I have been able to go to my mom about anything. She is a big part of who I am today. Not many girls can say that their mom is their best friend, but I'm proud to say my mom is my best friend. No matter what I do my mom is behind me and cheering me on, it didn't matter if it was swimming, choir, musicals, or any other activity I wanted to try she was there to help! I don't know what I would do without her!

Ashley (Ashla)

My older sister has been a huge influence on me. Ashley and I are complete opposites, but have a few things in common. Ashley has always been a dancer, she never stopped. Ashley was the person who got me involved in moving miracles, she helped me to get so much of the experience I've gotten with all the students.
